Australian Native Gardens are informal and mimic the general feel of the natural landscape in residential gardens. Picture native plants growing amongst rockeries or surrounding cascading water features that attract native birds, bees and butterflies and encourages diversity. These gardens suit our lifestyle perfectly when combining social spaces to relax and entertain amongst thriving native plants and wildlife.
Native gardens are also perfect for Adelaide’s hot, dry climate and low fertile soils. Although supplemental watering and soil conditioning is always highly recommended to allow plants to flourish through the summer months, it’s also a great way to protect your garden investment. Low maintenance is another benefit with no weekly mowing or hedging schedule. Just a garden that takes care of itself with some seasonal fertilising, pruning and mulching.
Although not native, we definitely don’t want to discount a few exotic deciduous plants in the garden. Deciduous trees placed strategically around the garden provide great benefits to shade your home in summer and warm and light interiors of your home in winter. And by the way, certain deciduous trees are far less messy over the course of a year than evergreen plants.
